Montessori's sensitive period of order at Les Petits Crayons - Bilingual Preschool
How wonderful to see the way children enjoy organising things so much. Our student's at Les Petits Crayons - Bilingual Preschool are no exception. A hundred percent focused on their task they can be oblivious to their surroundings and sometimes for quite a long time!
Individually or with a friend, they will start bulding lines of objects or sorting them out by color, encouraging each other. After a while, they will take a step back, gaze at their production with an growing smile or an exhulting joy!
This is how they naturally and enthusiastically lay the foundations of their logical thinking. Maria Montessori theorized it as the "sensitive period of order". A moment in the child's development wher he or she is very intent on organising and classifying. Everything needs to be at it's right place. This can be observed every day at the preschool. There is so much a teacher can do surfing on that powerful wave to take them further: discerning differences in objects, identifiying the different steps to take to fulfill a task, building algorithms, answering riddles...
